I am proton therapy treated (cured, hopefully) individual of a size a little too large to suit loma linda but had no problem at U of Florida (shands). Could not ask for nicer and/or more knowlegeable folks.Prostate cancer occurs when cells within the prostate grow uncontrollably. It is the most common non-skin cancer in America, affecting one in 6 of us men. A non-smoking man is more likely to develop prostate cancer than he is to develop colon, bladder, melanoma, lymphoma and kidney cancers combined. A man is 35 percent more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is to be diagnosed with breast cancer, with the odds increasing as he ages. In 2009, more than 192,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 27,000 men will die from the disease. One new case occurs every 2.7 minutes. It is estimated there are more than 2 million American men currently living with prostate cancer. Annual PSA testing and observation with prompt follow up for change is an absolutely life saving endeavor.
